The itineraries are created by a partnership of the National Park Service the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers and Federal, State, and local governments and private organizations in communities, regions, and heritage areas throughout the United States. The American Latino Heritage Discover Our Shared Heritage Travel Itinerary, the 55th in this ongoing series, is part of the Department of the Interior’s American Latino Heritage Initiative and the National Park Service’s commitment to connect people to history and encourage visits to national parks and other historic places in the nation. Descriptions of each featured destination on the List of Sites highlight the significance of the places and their stories, photographs and other illustrations, and information on how to visit.The itinerary offers several ways to discover and experience these historic places: The destinations featured in the American Latino Heritage Discover Our Shared Heritage Travel Itinerary reflect hundreds of years of American Latino heritage from the first Spanish expeditions to the New World and the early settlements to later contributions, struggles for civil rights, and much more.
